Gilded & Painted Table
Originally a cream painted table (see images). Transforming it took place using two types of wood graining techniques. One, the darker of the two being mahogany, the other is oak finished with a redish overstain.
The painted oak on the table top (photo mid right) gives the impression of the timber being quartered and arranged in a diamond pattern, this is surrounded by another inlay of painted oak accompanied by a double pinstripe of gold. The mahogany grain was painted over a base of deep orange, pinstripes were gilt using 23ct gold leaf, remaining moldings were gilded in 23ct (double) gold leaf.
